Making Mykonos a safer place was one of our priorities for 2020. The founding members of Friends of Mykonos selected enhancing the security of the island as the organization’s summer project. To that end, we decided to support the local police authorities and help them combat the recent rise in criminal activity.

Our organization agreed to purchase and donate certain needed equipment to the Mykonos Police Department. Through the generous support of Takis and Nadia Theocharakis, we have already donated two police vehicles, and from group-raised funds we purchased and donated two police motorcycles and ten motor scooters. We have also purchased a drone device along with the necessary peripherals, to further aid Mykonos police in doing their work.

Furthermore, Friends of Mykonos is participating in a joint effort to create an island-wide CCTV system — another important upgrade to Mykonos’ safety. The total budget for the project is approximately €350,000 and almost €150,000 of that cost is being paid by other agencies with which we are working. The Board of Directors of the Friends of Mykonos has committed to contribute an additional €100,000 to this project, leaving a €100,000 shortfall which we hope to raise from donations and through business-owner partner sponsors on Mykonos.
